Sleeping issues sometimes dominate our support meetings.
Every child or set of twins can have their own particular
set of circumstances that affect their sleeping and waking cycles. It can be very frustrating to keep trying different strategies,
only to suspect that you are making things worse, or that any successful resolutions are a result of the child growing out
of the problem rather than any brilliant actions on your part!
Some of the books out there are helpful, but beware
any inflexible "program" or advice that supercedes your instincts for what your baby needs. Troubleshooting questions we offer
moms at the meetings include these:
* Are they experiencing discomfort from a medical condition (teething, ear infection,
congestion, digestive problem) that may not be readily apparent to you? Check with your pediatrician.
* Are they approaching
a milestone in development?
* Is there a set routine the baby can expect for feeding and sleeping?
* What might
happen if the twins are put in the same room/put in different rooms?
* Is there some environmental reason for a disturbed
sleeper or early riser (noises, light, temperature)?
